Trader Joes is Moving to The Shops at Kenilworth
Trader Joe’s is moving to the Shops at Kenilworth from its current location near the traffic circle in Towson in 2017, the California grocer said Thursday.
The move comes as the owner of Towson Circle, where Trader Joe’s opened in 2000, plans to redevelop the site with apartments and a hotel, while the owner of Kenilworth also embarks on a $20 million renovation of its property.
Trader Joe’s also was facing new competition in the form of a Whole Foods planned for a spot a few blocks away opposite the library in downtown Towson, part of the Towson Row project.
A spokeswoman for Trader Joe’s declined to comment on the reasons for the relocation. The new store will be about 12,400 square feet, about 500 square feet larger than the current space, with about 750 parking spaces — more than 600 more than the current spot, she said.
